Seema A. Khan是西北大学医学院的外科学教授，也是布卢姆家族乳腺癌研究荣誉教授。她是Robert H. Lurie癌症研究中心女性疾病研究方向的主任。她的研究注重于寻找新的生物因子更好的对高危女性的乳腺癌患病风险进行分层，并为高危的患者开发预防的干预手段。她的研究获得了美国癌症协会（NCI）、美国健康协会（NIH）、乳腺癌研究基金会、雅芳基金会（Avon）、苏珊科尔曼（Susan G Koman）基金会等多家机构的科研基金。她是西北大学疾病预防协会的主要研究者。西北大学疾病预防协会是由NCI支持的，目的在于开展癌症预防的早期试验。Khan教授还是西北大学Lynn Sage乳腺中心乳腺癌资料库和病理库的主要负责人。在她从医期间，已培训过30位乳腺外科专科医生。

Khan教授现在从事的研究是包括孕激素受体拮抗剂对乳腺癌患者的疗效。还有一项对良性乳腺标本中寻找乳腺癌高危因子的研究。Khan教授的研究团队还在进行一种外用的经皮肤作用于乳腺的药物的开发。她现正主持一项美国东部肿瘤协作组（ECOG EA2108）的三期临床试验。这项试验将研究晚期乳腺患者手术治疗的作用。她还主持另外一项三期临床试验EA4112，目的在于研究在乳腺原位癌（DCIS）的评估和治疗中，乳腺MRI和DCIS分数的作用。Khan教授最近完成的研究项目包括：一项研究外用内分泌药物对DCIS的疗效的二期临床试验；一项乳头溢液激素水平的对照试验；还有一项乳腺上皮细胞基因甲基化和乳腺组织激素水平的研究。

Khan教授是美国癌症协会乳腺肿瘤组，美国外科医师学院，美国东部肿瘤协作组乳腺疾病委员会及预防疾病委员会等协会的委员。同时她还是许多重要期刊的编辑部委员，包括Cancer Research, Surgical Oncology, and the The Breast Journal。

Khan教授的研究成果已发表超过100余篇文献并刊登在领先的医学期刊上。她还受邀书写被誉为乳腺疾病圣经《乳腺病学》(Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, 5nd edition, 2014)一书的章节。
